(right) Sparky the Fire Dog and several Sister Bay/Liberty Grove firefighters met trick-or-treaters at Bhirdo's to hand out free flashing safety lights. The lights blink red and make the pedestrians more visible to nighttime traffic. Sparky also cruised around Sister Bay in the Fire Department's new 4WD motorized Bobcat to visit with trick-or-treaters while they were going from house to house.

Sparky is pictured with the Scoon family. If we took your picture and you would like a copy of it, please e-mail us at webmaster@sblgfd.com and we'll be happy to send it along!

Yacht Harbor Shores generously donated a house they were demolishing, for SBLG firefighters to burn in a training exercise. Rooms were set on fire several times and different teams of firefighters extinguished them. Firefighters were able to experience real conditions in a live burning building and discuss how to best extinguish rooms on fire from different locations.

Full photo gallery here - some really neat shots of the men & women at work!

The First Annual Bill Weborg Training Night was held at the SBLG South Station in Sister Bay, and about 50 firefighters from several northern Door Fire Departments participated. The training night had several stations in which firefighters had to use different skills to complete. Shown at right, the ropes station, where firefighters had to safely and properly tie a ventilation fan and a fire axe, and raise/lower them from first floor to second floor. There were also stations on searching a smoke-filled room (simulated by taping over the shields of SCBA masks), handling a hazardous materials emergency, and more.

Photos from the Training Night are posted in the Mutual Aid Gallery.
